Choose this day — not eventually.
“...choose you this day whom ye will serve... but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
Reflection
The command is choose — and this day, not eventually. Joshua refuses to let the decision drift as an open question quietly assumed; he forces it into the present tense, a thing settled today rather than left hanging. Choice, deliberate and dated, not default. And then he goes first, out loud: as for me and my house. He doesn't wait to see which way the crowd leans before declaring his own direction. The leadership is in the going-first — staking the commitment before it's safe or popular to. A Monday is a fitting day to choose deliberately whom and what the week will serve, rather than letting the week decide by default.
