Scripture Devotion

The searching eyes look for a heart to strengthen, not a fault to punish.

For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.
2 Chronicles 16:9 (KJV)

Reflection

The image is of active searching — eyes running to and fro throughout the whole earth, not passively watching but scanning, looking for something. And what they're looking for is not fault to punish but a heart to strengthen: someone to shew himself strong in behalf of. The condition isn't perfection of performance but a heart perfect toward him — whole, undivided, turned in the right direction. Not flawless, but fully oriented. The searching eyes aren't hunting for the impressive or the accomplished; they're looking for the wholly-turned heart, to back it with strength. Midweek, that reframes who's watching, and why.

Motivational Quote

Full effort is full victory.

Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment. Full effort is full victory.
Mahatma Gandhi

Application

Gandhi relocates victory from the result to the effort — a radical move, since the world grades almost entirely on outcomes. If full effort is full victory, then the win is available every day, regardless of whether the outcome cooperates. Midweek, give the full effort and count it as the victory it is, whatever the result column says.
