Scripture Devotion

The trouble is real — and already surrounded.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33 (KJV)

Reflection

The verse doesn't dodge the hard part — in the world ye shall have tribulation. Not might, not sometimes: shall. It's promised as plainly as the peace is. Anyone selling a faith that removes all trouble is selling something this verse refuses to. But the trouble is bracketed on both sides. Before it: in me ye might have peace. After it: I have overcome the world. The tribulation is real and it's also already surrounded — hemmed in by a peace on one side and a finished victory on the other. "Be of good cheer" isn't a denial of the trouble; it's a command grounded in the fact that the trouble doesn't get the last word. The overcoming is past tense. It's done.

Motivational Quote

Finite disappointment. Infinite hope.

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.
Martin Luther King Jr.

Application

King held both halves at once, and the balance is the wisdom. The disappointments are finite — real, but bounded, not the whole story. The hope is infinite — not naive, but larger than any single setback can reach. Accept the disappointment honestly; refuse to let it consume the hope. Both, together, all week.
