“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Reflection
The whole force of the verse is in one word: first. Not only, not instead — first. It's a statement about order, about what goes at the front of the line when everything competes for the top spot. The other things aren't dismissed; they're added — but added after, and because of, the first thing being first. That reorders the anxious arithmetic of a week. The instinct is to secure the "all these things" — the provision, the outcomes — and fit God in around them. The verse inverts it: put the kingdom first, and the rest follows in its train. Not a promise that seeking removes the need for the other things, but that it puts them in the right place, downstream of the one thing that belongs first.
