Reflection

This is the oldest blessing still spoken — the words Aaron was given to say over the people, thousands of years ago, still said over congregations today. And it builds, line by line, from protection outward to peace: kept, then shone upon, then given peace. Each line adds something to the one before. Notice the movement in the middle — make his face shine upon thee. A face shining toward you is the picture of favor, of being looked on with gladness rather than indifference or displeasure. The blessing isn't only for safety; it's for the warmth of being regarded kindly by the one who made you. On a day that carries hard memory for many, these ancient words still do their quiet work: kept, seen with favor, given peace.

Application

Müller — who ran orphanages on prayer alone and kept meticulous record of the answers — spoke of faith and anxiety as a seesaw: as one rises, the other falls. They can't both hold the same ground. The practical move, then, is not to fight the anxiety head-on but to feed the faith, and watch the anxiety recede as it does. Where one begins, the other ends.
